The local elections on May 5 give voters a chance to say who they want to represent them on their local council. The local elections on May 5 give voters a chance to say who they want to represent them on their local council. Elmbridge has the highest house prices by local authority outside of greater London, and the borough council this year submitted its plan for housing for the next 15 years as it tries to fill the need for smaller, affordable homes.

The borough council is currently run by a coalition of residents’ association and Liberal Democrat councillors, with the Conservative Party having 17 councillors. There are nine Lib Dems and 19 members representing different residents’ associations, including the leader’s The Walton Society.

The Esher and Walton parliamentary seat has become a tightly fought marginal as well, with Lib Dem Monica Harding reducing Dominic Raab’s majority from 23,298 in the 2017 general election to 2,743 in 2019. We asked all candidates to outline what they were offering voters on May 5.

I am a married local mother to two teenagers, and when not busy with them I follow my passion of helping to secure better futures for local people. If elected, my priorities for Esher, Hersham and Lower Green are: 1) Protect our Green Belt. 2) Help local businesses. 3) Support our community. Please vote Amanda Manship on Thursday May 5.

If elected I will use my property background to ensure local planning is fair and I will continue to protect our open spaces, common land and the Green Belt. I will continue to look at ways our High Street and local traders can be supported as well improving our pavements and slip roads. In addition I will pressurise Surrey County Council to address the chronic traffic congestion in Esher and Hersham.

Liz grew up in Surbiton and has lived in the Dittons with her family since 1990.
